Over the weekend we finally moved into our new office, the smell of fresh paint in the air and chairs still in their plastic wrap.
The new office and building are shared with many others from the different departments of ECO, but this gives a more lively feel compared to our previous one with its many open desks and empty spaces.
Over the course of the next week or so we will hopefully be fully situated and the mountain of chairs scattered throughout the office will find their homes now that our internet is arranged and the air-con is now functional.
Luckily we are on the 1st floor, otherwise we would be trapped in the bustle to get a space in the lift to the higher floors.
It’s still amazing that we finally have our own building to call home.
It’s official, we are moving out of our little office on IOI Boulevard on to our new building in Bukit Bandar Puchong along with the rest of ECO Group!
Over the next couple weeks we will be packing up all of our files and knickknacks that we have accumulated the past few years and shipping them to our new office.(Shared by some other departments)
This is a great thing as now we won’t have to be sheltered away in a different mailing address from the rest of the ECO Family and we will be in the same building as IPO, the showcase for our premium products!
Many times when we purchase products online we look at the pictures before we read anything about the products.
This could be dangerous with your wallet, especially when you think you may be getting the deal of the century.
Even in this day and age its still a common occurrence. Whether its size of the product or the product itself be careful so you don’t end up like these unlucky ones.
That beautiful living room rug?
Your new desk chair?
A new cooking pot?
How about a lovely dinosaur pillow case?
Some Assembly Required
For those trying to watch their weight
Lets play a game…
How about a new pool for the kids?
It’s very important to read the descriptions of what you’re buying as many return policies do not base on pictures alone and often have a waiver type sentence saying “objects may not appear as pictured due to differences in screen resolution and size”
Remember not to just buy based on pictures no matter what and always, have a Happy Appy Day!
Do you live in an older home and have a tap next to the toilet with a rubber hose or no hose at all?
Surprisingly many still do.
Yes this is an inconvenience, for some on the other hand this will be a deal breaker when going to use the toilet.
There is something about not being able to have a high pressure clean after using the toilet that just feels, ugh.
So today we are going to go through how to install your bathroom pressure washing bidet!
The First thing you should do is buy your parts.
For this you will need:
-A valve (to turn off the water to the bidet from the wall)
-The bidet and hose
-The correct wrench or channel pliers
-white PTFE tape (Teflon Tape)
The next step is to find the main water coming into the bathroom and turn it off.
This is a precautionary thing because if you do not do this then you will 100% have water pouring out of your wall and flooding your bathroom.
After you have turned off the water, take your pliers and turn the existing spout counter clockwise. There should be a nut or an area to tighten and loosen it as to not damage the fitting. So, keep turning it counterclockwise until it is completely removed.
When the old spout is removed and the fitting area is cleaned, get your new valve and place the white plumbing tape on the threaded areas.
Twice around should be enough until all the threads are covered. This will create a seal so that water will not leak out.
Now carefully align the threads on the new valve with the existing pipe where the original was removed from.
Turn the valve clockwise slowly so there is no damage the threads or fitting. Once enough threads have entered to make sure there is no damage, use your pliers to tighten the fitting.
(If there is no area for the pliers to hold and you do not want to damage the finish use a piece of cloth or rag between the pliers and the fixture)
Tighten until snug.
If the valve is facing the wrong direction slightly loosen or tighten until facing the correct direction.
The next and final steps are to attach your bidet and hose.
Just like the previous step, put the white plumbing tape on the threads of the valve fitting.
If there are included gaskets place one into the end of the hose that connects to the valve and tighten the hose onto the valve. After this you can put the other gasket on the other end of the hose and tighten by hand
Finally, urn the main water on and test for any leaks. If there are no leaks then your job is done!
You have now successfully upgraded your bathroom!
If you find a leak it will usually be an easy fix had you been careful. The leak could mean
The things either aren’t tight enough
You’d forgotten a gasket
There wasn’t enough of the plumbers tape on the threads.
If the proper care wasn’t included when installing or removing the valve, you might want to take this time to call a plumber as it could require replacing pipes.
Hopefully you will be successful in your endeavor!
So, you have a wall that’s been looking pretty ragged and you would like to spruce it up a bit or you just think that the wallpaper is downright ugly.
You may think that taking off your wallpaper would be as simple as removing a bandage, but if you don’t know what you’re about to try then you may do much more damage than you had originally planned for.
First of all, check what your wall is made of. If it’s stone or concrete you’re in luck as it is not as easy to damage as drywall.
After this check what type of wallpaper you have.
Different wallpaper types have different methods at which you could remove them. Vinyl for example, needs the Vinyl layer peeled away first before you proceed with the rest.
If your wallpaper is still pretty recent you may be lucky enough to have peel-able wallpaper in which you can pry up the corner with a putty knife and just peel it away from the wall slowly so that it doesn’t rip.
You will need a way to soften the adhesive behind the wall paper. For this there are several methods. You can use plain water, steam, chemical solvents and homemade concoctions of water mixed with fabric softener.
If possible start with the cheapest methods first, like warm/hot water in a spray bottle and work your way up from there until you find something that will loosen the adhesive on your test piece of wall.
Now that you’ve done that you may want to get yourself a wallpaper scorer although it isn’t 100% required it may help. It’s got a few little wheels on the bottom with pokey bits. This will help your removal solution get to the adhesive. Here are some examples
Now that you have this you’re going to want to get a wall paper scraper of some sort. This is used like the name that is specified with it. To scrape off the wallpaper.
At this point it is pretty straight forward.
Wet the wall paper to soften the adhesive backing and carefully scrape it away as to not damage the wall.
Depending how old the adhesive and how much was used this could be an easy task or a complete pain, if not completely soft you may tear up part of the wall along with it.
After you have gotten everything off the walls you should:
Reward yourself for a job well done
Cry a little if you tore a hole in your wall
Fix the damaged parts with some spackle
Clean up before anyone realizes what you’ve done.
Congrats! Now you’re halfway through with your walls and can decide whether to paint it or to put up new wall paper.
People always say the cliché “Home is where the Heart is” or “Home is where you Make it”.
Well the saying is cliché, but it is pretty true.
A home is something remarkable that can change entire generations, a home is something that everyone can have regardless of economic standing.
We are not talking about the physical structure of a house which many people still don’t have due to the cost of living. We are talking about the feeling that comes in being able to call it a home.
It’s a place where you:
can be yourself
keep your cherished items
can see raising a family there
can imagine spending the rest of your life
So how do you get from a house to a home?
Some they believe that they won’t ever find a place called home. This could be from underlying issues in their past, being a wanderlust who enjoys roaming the world like a nomad, or just not finding any place that they felt welcome.
We are going to focus on the latter part as there are no degrees held in psych here.
Finding a place where you feel welcome can be hard sometimes as many people still focus on outer appearances and may judge based on this.
Coming to realize that this will never truly change is the first step to finding home.
The key to getting around this is to find a place that you really wouldn’t mind seeing for the rest of your life. A nice sunset can wash away all the stress from the outside world.
Once you have found this place and bought it, you can begin to make your house into a home!
Start by making your home as safe from whatever dangers may be outside. A sturdy gate and strong high wall can help with this. (Applicable to landed houses only)
Have a strong door with a good lock as a just in case measure and a bit of added assurance.
Install an IP Camera and alarm system so that you will know if any unwanted guests arrive and be able to see who they are before walking to the door.
Now that your home is an impenetrable fortress of safety we can focus on the interior.
This is a time to think about what makes you feel the most comfortable. Is it soft furnishings, fluffy things, or is it just a re-creation of your childhood home?
Whatever it may be, what matters is that your home makes you feel welcome.
Everyone has their own ideas of what makes the perfect home, but in reality, all that really matters in the end of the day is that you want to come back to it every day. Make it into a place you would want your children to come back to and look upon fondly, remembering all the good times they had spent there with you.
A place so full of love and warmth that it feels as though it is going to burst like a geyser of these feelings and emotions.
Let the design come to you when you think about what you care about the most. The colors that are most welcoming to you. If your tastes change over time, it’s your home and you’re free to change it however suits you best.
This is one of the many ways of how you get home.
It’s not a conventional way to get there as there is no single cookie cutter path to follow that works for everyone.
Hopefully on your journey to home you’ll let us help you along the way.
In general curtains may not seem like such a big thing, but if you try to live without them you may find yourself wanting to buy them when the sun comes over the horizon in the early morning hours.
There are some major drawbacks if you don’t have curtains
Room temperature will rise easier if you have many windows.
Sleeping in and midday naps can be difficult due to intensity of the sunlight.
People will be able to see into your home in the most intimate time.
Outside noises will be more noticeable as there will be no buffer.
When it comes to curtains the most important thing is that they can do what they were meant to do as well as look good while doing it. For this they have to be the correct size.
To measure the length is relatively simple, if you have
a metal tape measure
A ladder (in case of tall windows)
For the measuring the vertical length you start from 7 cm-10 cm above the window down past the window sill to your desired length.
After you have this measurement, measure the widths of the windows to figure out how wide you need the curtains. For the drapery type you can follow this simple scale:
Up to 127 cm Frame width PLUS 25 cm
129 cm to 153 cm Frame width PLUS 30 cm
155 cm to 178 cm Frame width PLUS 36 cm
180 cm to 203 cm Frame width PLUS 41cm
This will ensure that you will not have any empty spacing between the curtains when you close them.
With your measurements, you can also determine the width you will need for your curtain rods. To calculate the length of the curtain rods you take your window width measurement and add 8 cm-13 cm on each side to the length or your window frame depending how much of the wall you would like to cover.
When all is said and done there are many designs of curtains to choose from as they are made of cloth and can be made to your own personal preferences.
You can choose whether you want
noise reduction curtains
Or all of the above.
There is a world of choices.
Something to remember when buying curtains to block out sound, the more folds or pleats there are in a curtain the more sound will be blocked as the sound will reflect and be absorbed by the curtains.
Hope this helped you a bit on figuring out how to measure for curtains and rods to go with them.
Just about everyone in a landed house has an auto gate or a gate of some sort but how safe are they? Will they really keep out someone trying to get in?
What is exactly stopping someone from coming in?
Electric auto gates are very convenient if you do not want to exit your vehicle to enter your property but as seen in videos on the web certain models and types of auto gate are not as safe as they should be.
Whether it is personal safety features that will prevent people from getting injured by the gate or features to keep people out more efficiently it is important to keep yours up to date for you and your family’s safety.
Most modern gates have automatic locks which increase the safety of the gates and make it harder for someone to enter and if strong enough will deter many would be robbers.
But for all of this to work everything has to be working properly.
There have been cases where an auto gate did not work properly and has crushed someone who had gotten stuck between and others where people have simply forced open the gate.
So how to make sure you’re truly safe?
The only surefire way to make sure it is working properly is to test its effectiveness and do maintenance on your gate regularly.
If you have a sliding gate make sure the drive motor, gears, and locking mechanism are not rusted or broken and are working properly.
For swinging gate and folding gates make sure that the hydraulic arms are functioning properly and can keep the gate at the closed position no matter how hard you try to move it in case the locking mechanism ever fails to do its job. Additionally, make sure that the manual bypass for the system is functioning properly and is set in the right position for any other just in case situations.
Different gates also provide different levels of security and safety for the owners of the home.
Folding gates are very aesthetically pleasing but can be unreliable as there are so many moving parts and some can be easily thwarted by lifting the gate out of the track.
Swing Gates are the most common system and are relatively reliable as long as they have been properly installed and will close rather quickly. Some may be made from cheap hollow metals and are easily overcome by those who would want to come in forcefully
Sliding gates are very reliable and relatively strong as they have very few moving parts aside from a large motor that drives the fence back and forth along the track. The only issues with having this style is that they are slow to close and have the possibility of crushing anything in their path.
Having a gate that is not easily climbable will deter many would be thieves. So, if possible when buying a new gate, consider one that has no foot or handholds within reach, large pointed areas at the top, and are high enough that the average person would not be able to reach the top.
A good but sad example of this would be the gate at a prison.
Whatever your choice in the end may be having a gate is better than having no gate because without one someone could just walk right in.
Living in Malaysia makes Aircon a daily necessity as temperatures are a constant 27 degrees and higher. With this having a faulty or dirty aircon can easily make a home feel like an oven.
So how do you know if your aircon is on it’s way out or if just needs a good cleaning?
The first thing to check would be is the strength and temperature of the air coming from the aircon.
Many people neglect to clean out the filter on their aircon units when they clean because the unit is usually a meter or so out of reach and even with a 170 cm ladder can be hard to reach still.
If you’ve had an issue where your aircon is barely blowing out air and or it isn’t as cold as it should be you should check your filter as this will affect the aircon a lot and may cause problems if not routinely cleaned.
Aircon will have to push harder to cool the home and use more power
Aircon will wear out faster as it will be running full throttle to cool the home due to reduced airflow
If dust makes it on the cooling coils it may cause the aircon to freeze and work less efficiently
Steps for Basic Aircon Cleaning
Cleaning the aircon filters can be done easily if you have a ladder tall enough to reach.
First you can access the filters by lifting or removing the front plastic at the lift point usually outlined on the unit itself.
From here you remove the filters (usually they will lift over a small lip and you slide them down and out)
After the filters are removed, if you have a bidet you can at this time spray the backs of the filters to push the dust and gunk out the front of the filter. You will instantly be able to see where is clean and where isn’t. If you do not have a bidet you can also use the sink or shower head to wash the filters.
After washing set them aside to completely dry. A hair drier works as well to blow out and evaporate excess water but do not overdo it and damage the filters.
This next step in cleaning your aircon may get messy.
Using compressed air(PC Duster/Cleaner), carefully blow out all the dust that you can see inside of the aircon unit.
If you do not have access to compressed air take a micro fiber cloth or towel and gently try to get as much of the dust out of the unit as possible being careful not to bed any of the metal fins as this will also limit the airflow and capture more dust.
After your filters are dry and you have cleaned out the accumulated dust inside of the aircon unit you can reinstall the filters and test the aircon.
Your aircon should now be able to breath and blow with ease.
When to call a Professional
If at this point your aircon is still not functioning as it should, this would now be the time to call a service tech to come take a look as any other steps require special equipment and possibly acrobatic skills.
Certain aspects of servicing an aircon are quite dangerous as major components are kept outside of the house and depending on your home may be 20 floors from the ground.
This would be where we put in a shameless plug to use our services.
But as our platform is still in the beta testing phase we will have to wait for a later date to do that. For now though if you require servicing feel free to contact us through our Contact Form on here or the website. If you want a more urgent response to your Query you can Message on Facebook as well.
